All units of armed forces in the United States require certain tactical gear to adequately perform their duties and ensure survival. From SWAT to the military to Navy Seals, each branch has specific tactical gear suited for their duties. These soldiers and elite forces are sent into dangerous situations on a regular basis and must make sure they are well-equipped for any scenario they may face.
SWAT, or Special Weapons and Tactics, units of any police force are highly trained officers who must regularly perform dangerous duties in times of crisis. Some of these duties include, but are not limited to, serving high-risk arrest warrants, hostage rescues, countering and preventing terrorist attacks, and engaging heavily armed criminals and close quarters battle (CQB) in urban environments. For any of these situations, SWAT team members must be prepared with the proper equipment.
Dealing with these highly dangerous situations requires officers to have specific SWAT tactical gear. In terms of clothing, some SWAT tactical gear includes fire-resistant coveralls or flightsuits (usually made of Nomex, a flame-retardant brand), body armor vests, Nomex tactical gloves, a balaclava or face mask, protective goggles, Kevlar helmets, gas masks, combat boots and a load-bearing vest for ammunition.
SWAT forces also are well-armed during their operations. These weapons include submachine guns such as the 10mm MP5/10 or the 9mm Heckler & Koch MP5, shotguns, carbines (particularly the M4 carbine) and high powered rifles (sniper rifles). Additional smaller arms include tasers, pepper spray, explosive charges and battering rams to breach heavy doorways.
Any country’s military faces dangerous, life-threatening situations as part of their job description. While enlisted in these armed forces, soldiers must be adequately prepared for combat and emergency survival tactics. Some particular military tactical equipment includes protective gear, such as flame-retardant gloves, knee and elbow pads, and helmets.
Camouflage is another important aspect of military tactical gear. Camouflage was created as a means for soldiers to blend in with their surroundings, masking them from the view of their opposition. Initially used on clothing, camouflage has been adopted for vehicles and weapons. Some special military forces, such as snipers, require camouflage to conceal their location from the enemy. In terms of survival, some tools soldiers carry include knives, pliers, camouflage face paint, radio pouches, sleeping bags, flashlights and hydration systems.
An elite force of the Navy, Navy Seal tactical gear is a combination of survival gear and combat gear. The Navy Seals (Sea Air and Land) are an elite special operations force that engages in unconventional warfare, such as foreign international defense, counterterrorism and reconnaissance operations. During their missions, Navy Seals operatives are equipped with various tactical gear to ensure they are adequately prepared for every dangerous situation and survival scenario. Some gear includes survival and assault pouches, protective clothing, flashlights, knives and bandanas, as well as wool berets bearing the Navy Seal insignia for proper identification.
No matter what kind of combat one engages in, the proper tactical gear is imperative to effectively perform the missions and to ensure one’s safety.
